Qatar-Portugal Relations

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Portugal dates back to 1982. In 2009, the two countries signed an agreement to open embassies in their respective capitals, Doha and Lisbon. By virtue of this agreement, Portugal opened its embassy in Doha in 2011 then the State of Qatar opened its own embassy in Lisbon in 2012.

  • Memorandum of understanding on political consultation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic , signed in 10/4/2008.
  • Agreement on the promotion and protection of mutual investments, signed in 21/4/2009
  • Memorandum of understanding between the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar and the Olympic Committee of the Portuguese Republic in the area of sports, signed in 21/4/2009
  • Agreement on the exemption of diplomatic and particular passports’ holders from entry visa, signed in 4/5/2010
  • Memorandum of understanding on cooperation and exchange in the field of information between the Qatari news agency (QNA) and the Portuguese news agency (Lusa), signed in 04/05/2010
  • Memorandum of understanding between the General Authority for Tourism in Qatar and the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Development in Portugal, signed in 16/1/2011
  • Agreement of understanding and cooperation between Qatar’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Portuguese Entrepreneurs’ Federation and the Portuguese Industrial Federation, signed in 16/1/2011
